Sunday starts a new church year, it’s the first Sunday of Advent. It’s a four week period to prepare for the coming of Christ. As we celebrate his coming in the manger, we prepare for his return in glory.
Hopefully it’s a time that puts things into perspective. This season often highlights our limitations (what can’t be purchased, relationships we can’t handle, places we can’t be). Alongside those realities comes the promise that God is unlimited. Nothing is beyond is ability, creativity or grasp. His incarnation at Christmas opens the door for his further participation in our lives.
We have access to God through Jesus. Access to more resources, patience, time, peace, joy, love. As people of The Cross the Christmas season can highlight God’s expansive capacity instead of majoring on our failure and limitation.
